BARBARIAN WIPEOUTTHE FIELD GUIDE

Academy · CHAPTER 05

Artifacts & Research

Discover artifacts and explore every Academy research choice.

Artifacts

Artifacts are discoveries you can find through battle, that give significant buffs for the ongoing game. Once you have built your first Academy, battles against barbarian villages with defending troops can yield artifacts. Finding one is not guaranteed. The collection uses the broad drop groups Common, Regional, Food source, Defending troops, Village and Special. Discover the individual artifacts and what they do as you play.

Research at the Academy

Research choices belong to each city. Academy levels 1, 3, 5, 8 and 10 each unlock one choice, for a maximum of five. A choice takes effect immediately. Each branch must be followed in order, and every prerequisite also uses a choice. Shared research requires the row-2 choice from each neighboring branch; each already requires its row-1 choice. Plan carefully: choices cannot be freely reset.

Economy

Material Planning

Construction requires 10% less wood.

Resource Reserves

Protect 5% per Warehouse level of each stored resource from enemy looting.

Requires Material Planning.

Civilian Workforce

Available Housing automatically boosts this city's resource gathering: +1% per 10 free Housing, capped at +50%. No Housing is reserved or assigned to workers.

Requires Resource Reserves.

Construction Credit

Automatically cover up to 25% of an upgrade's total resource cost when stock is insufficient. Missing resources become negative balances; production, loot and support repay them before becoming spendable. Only one outstanding loan.

Requires Civilian Workforce.

Flexible Warehousing

Redistribute this city's total storage allowance between resources; any one resource may receive up to twice its normal allowance. Total storage does not increase. Applying a new allocation discards stock above each new limit.

Requires Construction Credit.

City

Firebreaks

Reduce newly inflicted fire intensity by 15%.

Reinforced Foundations

Buildings behind this city's wall suffer 20% less structural damage.

Requires Firebreaks.

Emergency Workshops

One dedicated repair slot can work independently of the construction queue.

Requires Reinforced Foundations.

Restoration Charter

Rebuilding levels previously destroyed by attacks costs 30% fewer resources and takes 30% less time than a normal upgrade, up to this city's recorded previous building levels.

Requires Emergency Workshops.

Efficient City Planning

Increase this city's size by 5.

Requires Restoration Charter.

Military

Orderly Withdrawal

Unlock a recall order during offensive marches for armies originating here.

Battle Plans

Set an automatic retreat threshold before departure, such as 30% losses.

Requires Orderly Withdrawal.

Forced Marches

Optionally move an outbound rally 25% faster by paying twice its normal water cost at departure.

Requires Battle Plans.

Forward Command

Armies originating here can attack directly from their stationed location, keeping their original home and housing commitment.

Requires Forced Marches.

Fortification

Activate fortification in this city's Wall and set it from 1–100%. Reduce all resource production by that percentage and increase this city's troop defenses by the same percentage.

Requires Forward Command.

Economy & City

Planned Redevelopment

Voluntarily dismantle a building level to free its city space. All resources spent on the upgrade are lost.

Requires Resource Reserves and Reinforced Foundations.

City & Military

Emergency Preparation

The emergency state begins when an incoming attack is detected and continues through any resulting defensive battle: 50% faster recruiting, 30% more resource production and 20% faster construction.

Requires Reinforced Foundations and Battle Plans.
